Colorado Rapids News Release
COMMERCE CITY, Colo. - The Colorado Rapids have loaned defender Gustavo Vallecilla to Columbus Crew for the remainder of the 2023 MLS season in exchange for $175,000 in 2023 General Allocation Money (GAM), the club announced today. As part of the agreement, Columbus will have the option to purchase Vallecilla on a permanent basis at the end of the loan.
"We believe this season-long loan will provide Gustavo with an excellent opportunity to continue his development while gaining valuable minutes against MLS opposition," said Pádraig Smith, Colorado Rapids Executive VP & General Manager.
Vallecilla, 23, made 12 appearances with the Rapids in 2022 after joining the club from FC Cincinnati last March. Prior to his arrival in Colorado, Vallecilla spent two seasons on loan with Cincinnati from Ecuadorian side SD Aucas, registering 25 appearances and two goals.
The Rapids will host their first home game of the 2023 MLS season as they welcome Sporting Kansas City to DICK'S Sporting Goods Park on March 4 (7:30 p.m. MT; Apple TV - MLS Season Pass).
