
LAFC Hosts Portland in 2023 Season Opener Saturday, March 4 at Bmo Stadium

The Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) hosts the Portland Timbers in the season opening match of the 2023 MLS regular season on Saturday, Mar. 4. Kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m. PT at BMO Stadium and will be available on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV/ FOX/ ESPNLA 710 AM/980 AM).
Fans should be in their seats by 1:00 p.m. to witness history as the 2022 MLS Cup Championship banner will be unveiled and last season's players will be presented with diamond-clad rings created in partnership with Baron® Jewelers.
The Black & Gold enter their sixth MLS Regular season and begin to defend the 2022 MLS Cup title. Since coming into the league, LAFC is 5-for-5 in home openers, with victories over Seattle Sounders FC (1-0; 4/29/18), Sporting KC (2-1; 3/3/19), Inter Miami CF (1-0; 3/1/2020), Austin FC (2-1; 4/17/2021) and Colorado (3-0; 2/26/2022).
NEWS & NOTES
- Los Angeles FC won their last two meetings against Portland last season in 2-0 win in the U.S. Open Cup and 2-1 win on the penultimate regular season. Prior to that, Portland was unbeaten in six straight matches vs. LAFC dating back to October 2020.
LAFC has won all five of its season-opening matches since entering the League in 2018. FC Dallas holds the league record of six straight wins in season openers from 2012 to 2017.
Carlos Vela is the only remaining member of LAFC's 2018 inaugural season roster.
The reigning MLS Cup champions have opened their title defense with a win just once in the last six seasons.
This will be the second time a reigning champ opens their season against the Timbers since 2011 where the Rapids defeated the Timbers 3-1.
