GREENVILLE, SC - The New York Yankees have announced that RHP Luis Cedeno has been called up to Class A Charleston from extended spring training. The native Venezuelan takes the spot in the RiverDogs staff vacated by RHP Jonathan Loaisiga who was placed on the 7-day disabled list on Saturday after sustaining an upper-body injury in his start in game two of Friday's doubleheader in Lexington.

Tuesday's start against the Drive will mark the beginning of the fifth professional season for Cedeno who began last season in Charleston before finishing out the year in Short Season Staten Island. Cedeno touts an impressive 3.05 ERA in 112 career minor league innings.

Cedeno impressed in his Single-A debut with Charleston on April 24 last season, tossing five no-hit innings against Savannah at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park while striking out four and walking two. Cedeno went on to make nine starts with the RiverDogs while compiling a 3-6 record with a 3.52 ERA in 46 innings while accumulating 28 strikeouts to 23 walks before being assigned to Staten Island on June 11. Cedeno finished out the year going 5-3 with a 2.73 ERA, a mark that ranked fourth-best in the New-York Penn League, in 13 appearances (12 starts) and was named a NYPL Mid-Season All-Star. In 66 innings of work with the Baby Bombers, Cedeno struck out 51 and walked 20.

Originally signed by the Yankees as a non-drafted free agent in 2012 out of Puerto La Cruz, Venezuela, Cedeno dominated in his early rookie ball career. The righty began in the Dominican Summer League where he spent two seasons from 2012-13, impressing with a 6-0 record and a allowing just one earned run in 26.1 innings (0.34 ERA) with 23 strikeouts before making his stateside debut in 2014 with the Gulf Coast League Yankees. In Florida, Cedeno continued to find success, posting a 1.13 ERA despite a 1-3 record in 15 games (6 starts) across 40 innings of work.

Cedeno gets the nod for Charleston in game two on Tuesday night against the Greenville Drive, the Class A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, with the first pitch set for 7:05pm at Fluor Field. The Drive will send RHP Roniel Raudes (4-1, 3.33) to oppose Cedeno in his season debut. The RiverDogs will wrap up the three game series with the Drive before returning to The Joe for a seven-game homestand from May 19-26.
