Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
HAGERSTOWN, MD - Pedro Avila gave up one run over five innings and the Suns led from the first inning in topping the BlueClaws 4-1 on Tuesday night at Municipal Stadium. With the win, the Suns improved to 8-0 against the BlueClaws this year.
Lakewood, who fell to 15-22, have dropped two straight in Hagerstown after their six-game winning streak. The Suns, meanwhile, improved to 25-12 on the year.
The Suns got on the board in the first inning, taking the lead on a SAC fly by Matt Page. Then in the second inning, a Jan Hernandez throwing error made it 2-0 and Austin Davidson's RBI double put the Suns up 3-0.
The BlueClaws got on the board in the third inning, getting a run when Josh Tobias grounded into a double play that enabled Jiandido Tromp to score. After the double play, the BlueClaws loaded the bases, but Deivi Grullon struck out looking to end the inning.
Avila (2-2) came out after five, allowing one run, and gave way to Taylor Gilbeau, who threw three scoreless innings.
Victor Robles homered in the seventh inning off Tyler Gilbert, who exited after allowing four runs, three earned, in seven innings. Gilbert has thrown seven innings in each of his last three starts.
In the eighth, Lakewood had two on and nobody out, but Robles robbed Damek Tomscha of an extra-base hit with a leaping grab against the centerfield fence. The BlueClaws would fail to score in the inning.
Mariano Rivera threw a scoreless ninth inning for his second save of the season.
Four BlueClaws - Emmanuel Marrero, Wilson Garcia, Jose Pujols, and Jiandido Tromp - all had two hits in the loss.
The series concludes on Wednesday morning at 10:35 am. RHP Shane Watson (2-1) starts for Lakewood against RHP Jefry Rodriguez (2-2).
