Asheville Tourists News Release

AUGUSTA, GA - On Tuesday night, the Asheville Tourists suffered their second walk-off loss in their last three games. The Augusta GreenJackets used a four-run sixth inning to go ahead and although the Tourists came back to tie the game Augusta managed a run in the bottom of the ninth to win 5-4.

Asheville jumped out to a 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the top of the first. Yonathan Daza lined an RBI single into left and Josh Fuentes delivered a sacrifice fly. After the two-run frame, GreenJackets' starter Phil Bickford held the Tourists without a hit for the next four innings. Asheville did put two runners aboard in the sixth, but came up empty.

Augusta did not come up empty in the sixth. As a matter of fact, that is when they did the lion share of their damage. With one out, the GreenJackets rallied for five straight hits off Tourists starter David Hill. The big blow came on a bases clearing triple from Jean Angomas as part of a four-run inning.

Trailing 4-2, the Tourists rallied in the top of the eighth. With runners at second and third, Sam Hilliard lined a two-run single into right to tie the game. Cristian Quintin entered in the bottom of the ninth but surrendered a leadoff single. After a sacrifice bunt and a passed ball moved the game winning run to third, Kelvin Beltre connected with his fourth hit of the night; a game-winning single to center.

The GreenJackets finished with 15 hits and had at least one in every inning. For the fourth straight contest the Tourists allowed at least one run in the bottom of the ninth of a close game. The series rubber match is set for Wednesday night at 7:05pm.
