Providence Bruins News Release

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence went 3 for 4 on the power play and Colby Cave netted two to help the P-Bruins defeat the Phantoms.

Anton Blidh put Providence on the board at 17:41 in the first period for his first goal in a P-Bruins jersey. Blidh had a solid effort to keep the puck in the attacking zone and backhanded it to Seth Griffith who found Tommy Cross on the blue line. Cross launched a shot on net and Blidh fought through traffic to put the puck past LaBarbera.

The second period saw the Phantoms finding the back of the net in the first 25 seconds of the period. Frank Vatrano netted his eighth goal of the season after finishing an Alexander Khokhlachev pass from behind the net, a helper also going to Griffith. Vatrano was immediately cross checked after the goal, putting the P-Bruins on the power play yet again. Cave converted on the resulting power play, the assists going to Khokhlachev and Griffith yet again. Lehigh retaliated with a goal of their own with seconds left in the period to put the Phantoms within one.

Lehigh came out strong in the 3rd and scored 6:42 into the period to tie the game at 3 apiece, but Providence controlled the game from then on out, outshooting the Phantoms 12-4 in the third period. Matt Irwin scored his first of the season and the eventual game-winner, sneaking in from the blue line and receiving a pass from Vatrano in the corner. Cave solidified the win, burying an empty-netter with under a minute left in regulation.

The P-Bruins take on Lehigh again tomorrow in Allentown, PA at 7:05pm
