
San Diego Gulls Knock off San Jose Barracuda 3-0

SAN JOSE, CA -The San Jose Barracuda (2-2-0-1, 5pts) presented by Barracuda Networks lost 3-0 to the visiting San Diego Gulls (4-0-0-0, 8pts) in front of 3,156 fans at the SAP Center on Friday evening. The San Jose Barracuda hit the road to battle the Ontario Reign on Saturday at 6pm.
Aaron Dell made 31 saves in net for San Jose in the 3-0 loss. Chris Wagner (1-0-1), Chris Mueller (1-1-2) and Nick Ritchie (1-0-1) scored for San Diego. John Gibson made 23 saves for the shutout as the Gulls won their fourth straight game to begin the season and swept the two game set in San Jose.
Vincent Arseneau (1st FM) of the Barracuda and Stu Bickel (1st FM) of the Gulls got into fisticuffs to set the tone of the game at 1:38 in the first period. Chris Wagner (1st) of the Gulls scored the first goal at 5:02, on a breakaway shot that went top shelf over Aaron Dell's glove. Chris Mueller (1st) put the puck in the back of the net off of a juicy rebound at 18:11 to put San Diego up 2-0. Shots were 10 to 8 in favor of San Diego.
The Barracuda and Gulls went back and forth exchanging scoring chances and penalties through the 2nd. Nick Ritchie (4th) scored on a power play goal from the bottom of the right circle at 15:56 to add to the Gulls lead. Shots were 15 to 5 in favor of the Gulls and each team received two minor penalties in the period.
Physical play continued through the third. Both teams received one penalty in the period, and both were killed off with no score. Goaltenders John Gibson and Aaron Dell were both stellar turning away all shots faced. Shots were 10 to 9 in favor of the Barracuda as San Jose fell to 0-2-0-1 on home ice this season.

Nikolay Goldobin led the Barracuda with 5 shots... Karl Stollery (game 1 of 1 game AHL suspension), Adam Helewka, and Frazer McLaren did not dress for the Barracuda...captain Bryan Lerg is still on recall with the SJ Sharks....before the game forward Micheal Haley was loaned back to the Barracuda from the SJ Sharks and he had his three game point streak snapped.
