
Cats Sweep Sox with 3-2 Walk-Off Win

WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The River Cats swept the Colorado Sky Sox in the bottom of the ninth on a Michael Taylor single to right field in Sacramento's 3-2 victory on Thursday night at Raley Field.
Infielder Josh Rutledge led off the first with a solo home run, giving the Sky Sox an early lead. Late in the fourth, the River Cats responded by scoring on a two-out RBI sacrifice-fly by infielder Hiro Nakajima. Late in the seventh, Sky Sox righty Michael Solbach (0-0, 12.10 ERA) walked in the go-ahead run for the River Cats. The lead didn't last long when the Sky Sox scored on a single by outfielder Charlie Culberson in the eighth before Taylor sent the Raley Field faithful home happy in the bottom of the ninth.
On the mound, River Cats starter Bruce Billings (10-4, 4.37 ERA) faced Sky Sox right-hander Steven Hensley (0-1, 3.99 ERA). Billings, allowed one run on five hits in 7.1 innings of work, on 97 pitches and maintains his spot as a league-leader in wins.
Outfielder Shane Peterson added his 14th stolen base of the season. Taylor went 3-for-5 with one RBI and outfielder Michael Choice went 2-for-4, scoring two of his team's three runs. With the loss, the Sky Sox join the Fresno Grizzles, Las Vegas 51s, Salt Lake Bees and Tacoma Rainiers as teams that have lost at least 100 times to the River Cats in franchise history.
Sky Sox outfielder and Sacramento State alum Tim Wheeler extended his hitting streak to 11 games, producing a single and going 1-for-4. Righty Logan Kensing (1-2, 1.97 ERA) took the loss for the Sky Sox, giving up two hits and one run in the ninth.
The River Cats finished their four-game series against the Sky Sox and will go on the road, when right-hander Travis Banwart (5-5, 5.02 ERA) will take on righty Chris Schwinden (4-8, 6.00 ERA) of the Las Vegas 51s at 7:05 p.m. at Cashman Field on Friday night.
