Dwyer Shuts Down Sounds in Series Opener

OMAHA, Neb. - Behind a dominant outing from starter Chris Dwyer, the Omaha Storm Chasers (51-56) limited the Nashville Sounds (38-69) to only three hits in a 6-1 series-opener win. The Storm Chasers have posted 14 wins in the month of July, second most in the league trailing only Salt Lake's 15 wins, and kept pace with first place Memphis to remain a game off the division lead.
Dwyer allowed just one run and three hits over seven innings of work, posting his team-leading 13th quality start this season, and the southpaw struck out a new Triple-A career high eight. In four starts against Nashville this season, Dwyer has allowed just five earned runs in 27.2 innings (1.63 ERA) and has posted his three highest Triple-A strikeout totals. Dwyer earned his first win at Werner Park since May 23, with reliever Maikel Cleto tossing two perfect innings with four strikeouts to seal the victory.
The Omaha offense gave Dwyer all the support he would need in the second and third innings, with the five-through-eight hitters in the lineup driving in five runs in the two frames. Designated hitter Max Ramirez collected his team-leading 50th RBI, catcher Brett Hayes drove in his 15th run in only seven games against Nashville in 2013 and rightfielder Paulo Orlando singled in his team-leading 14th RBI this month, more than he had in the first three months of the season combined (13 RBI).
Second baseman Christian Colon provided an exclamation point to the Omaha win with a solo homer in the seventh, his third consecutive game with a long ball. Colon has 10 homers this season, a new career high, and the infielder had only had homers in back-to-back games once in his career, let alone three games straight, before his current stretch.
The win improves the Chasers record against the Sounds at Werner Park to 15-6, the best winning percentage against any opponent in the two-plus years of the stadium's existence. Omaha will look to win three straight home games for the first time this season as they send out left-hander Everett Teaford (3-2, 2.80), who has not suffered the loss in 18 consecutive starts for the Chasers dating back to April of the 2011 season. Teaford will square off with Nashville left-hander Chris Narveson (2-6, 6.37) with first pitch set for 7:05 p.m.
