Aces drop series finale
July 26, 2013 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Reno Aces News Release
LAS VEGAS, Nev.- The Aces attempted a 4-run comeback Thursday night, but the late rally fell short, as Reno dropped the series finale to Las Vegas by a score of 5-3.
51s outfielder Mike Baxter kicked off the night's scoring with a solo home run off Reno's Mike Bolsinger in the first inning. Outfielder Eric Campbell tacked on another run for Las Vegas in the third inning with an RBI double, and the 51s gained an early 2-0 advantage.
After being shutout for the first five innings by 51s RHP Rafael Montero, Reno finally broke through in the sixth inning with three runs scored. Alfredo Marte drove in a pair of Aces with an RBI single, and Tuffy Gosewisch's sacrifice fly brought Reno within one run.
Las Vegas quickly answered Reno's big inning, as infielder Zach Lutz drove in Mike Baxter in the seventh with an RBI single, and extended the 51s lead to 5-3.
Reno would put the first two hitters on-base to start the ninth, but Las Vegas LHP Pedro Feliciano would end the Aces threat and close out the 51s victory.
Alfredo Marte shined at the plate for Reno, as he went 3-for-4 with 2 RBIs.
Rafael Montero earned the victory for the 51s, and improved to 2-2 on the season. Mike Bolsinger (4-4) suffered the loss for Reno, after allowing 4 ER in 5.2 innings pitched.
Reno returns to Aces Ballpark tomorrow night for the first game of a 4-game series against the Tacoma Rainiers. RHP Brandon McCarthy will take the ball for the Aces, as he starts his second Major League Rehabilitation game with the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Rainiers will counter with RHP Blake Beavan (4-3, 5.10 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. PT, and all the action can be heard live on KPLY 630 AM.
Tickets are available for the upcoming weekend homestand, and all other remaining Aces home games, at RenoAces.com, by calling (775) 334-7000 or by visiting the Aces Ballpark Ticket Office.
