New Britain Rock Cats News Release
New Britain, CT - William Rhymes led Erie with four hits and James Skelton knocked in three runs as the Seawolves defeated the Rock Cats, 6-2.
Skelton put Erie ahead 1-0 with a solo home run in the first inning. The Rock Cats answered back in the bottom of the inning. Matt Tolbert led off with a double and scored on another double by David Winfree to tie the game. Toby Gardenhire then drew a bases loaded walk that scored Dustin Martin, who had reached base on a fielding error, and put the Rock Cats on top, 2-1.
The lead didn't last long, though, as the Seawolves took advantage of miscues by the Rock Cats. Yohan Pino hit the first batter he faced in the inning and walked the next. Santo De Leon then reached base on a fielding error by third baseman Danny Valencia that loaded the bases for the Seawolves. Pino came back to strike out the next batter for the first out of the inning, but he allowed two runs - and RBI single by William Rhymes and an RBI sacrifice fly by Skelton - that put Erie back on top, 3-2.
Skelton finished with two hits and three RBI on the night, including an RBI single in the sixth. Deik Scram added an RBI triple for the Seawolves in the seventh inning. Santo De Leon slugged a solo homer for Erie in the eighth inning.
Erie's Daniel Christensen (7-8, 3.95) tossed seven impressive innings, limiting the Rock Cats to two runs on five hits. He struck out seven. Rudy Darrow notched his fourth save of the season.
Yohan Pino allowed four runs - two earned - and eight hits through six innings. Pino (6-6, 4.26) struck out seven.
