Memphis Redbirds News Release
Memphis, Tenn. - Sacramento used back-to-back big innings to blow out Memphis 12-1 Friday night at AutoZone Park.
A pair of walks to lead off the sixth inning led to a five-run rally for the River Cats capped by a two-run double from Tom Gregorio. In the seventh an RBI triple from Matt Watson, who was a single shy of the cycle, was followed by a Bobby Smith home run to make the score 11-1. Watson went 3-for-4 with three RBI and three runs scored. Smith also drove in three runs.
For Memphis the offense was scarce with the âBirds collecting only five hits on the night. LF Raul Gonzalez provided the lone run when he knocked in 2B Bo Hart in the first inning with a single.
Cats starter Dan Meyer (2-6) was impressive in his longest outing of the season. The A's No. 4 prospect tossed seven innings and allowed only one run on four hits with seven strikeouts. Memphis starter Adam Wainwright (6-8) dropped his second straight start after giving up six runs on four hits in 5.1 innings. He walked three and fanned five.
Memphis will begin a four-game set with Fresno tomorrow night with game time set for 6:05 p.m. RHP Anthony Reyes (7-4) will start for the âBirds and the Grizzlies will send RHP Seung Song (0-0) to the mound.
