RedHawks take series finale, 14-4 over Sidewinders

Tucson, AZ - The Tucson Sidewinders' 6 game win streak was snapped Friday night as the Oklahoma RedHawks had 5 multi run innings to win 14-4. The Sidewinders fell down early trailing 6-0 after the top of the 2nd inning and could not bounce back.. Oklahoma starting RHP R.A. Dickey had a strong outing holding the Sidewinders hitters to 6 hits and 4 runs in 6 innings of work while throwing 128 pitches to earn the win.

RHP Russ Ortiz went 3 innings giving up 7 earned runs on 7 hits with 3 walks and 2 strikeouts in his rehab start for the Sidewinders. Ortiz threw 64 pitches in the game, 36 of which were for strikes. The outing was Ortiz's first sense June 15th when he started for the Diamondbacks against the Chicago White Sox.

RHP Elvin Nina entered the game in relief of Ortiz giving up 1 run on 1 hit with 2 walks in .2 innings of work. RHP Edgar Gonzalez pitched 4 innings in relief giving up 6 runs, 4 earned, on 7 hits with a walk and 3 strikeouts. LHP Randy Choate continued his scoreless inning streak throwing a perfect 9th inning. Choate has now gone 10 2/3 consecutive scoreless innings to lower his ERA to 3.86 on the season.

Offensively 2B Keoni DeRenne had 2 of the Sidewinders 6 hits in the game. DeRenne finished the night 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. With a walk in the first inning LF Andy Green extended his streak of reaching base via hit or walk to 43 games.

The loss drops the Sidewinders to 56-51 on the season, 4 games back of division leading Sacramento. Tucson begins a four game series against the New Orleans Zephyrs tomorrow at Tucson Electric Park with first pitch scheduled for 7 PM. The scheduled starting pitchers are LHP Jon Cannon (3-5, 4.19) for the Tucson and LHP Matt White (4-5, 3.61) for New Orleans.
