TONIGHT: The Royals take on the Beavers in the series finale at PGE Park in Portland. Omaha leads the series 2-1. Air-time is 8:45 p.m. on Magic 1490 and at www.Oroyals.com.

LAST NIGHT: In his first appearance since being moved to the bullpen, Chris George (7-7) fired 3.2 hitless innings of scoreless relief, helping the Royals to a 3-2 win over Portland. George came on in the 4th inning for Mike Wood, who allowed just one run over 3.1 innings in his first start since coming down from KC. Santiago Ramirez worked the final 2.0 frames, giving up a solo homer to Portland catcher Miguel Tejada with two outs in the 9th, but then getting the final out to pick up his seventh save. Calvin Pickering had three hits for the Royals, including a two-run single in the 3rd inning, which broke a scoreless tie.

ROYALS REPORT: Prior to his sterling relief effort last night, George had gone 0-2 and posted a 10.80 ERA (20 ER in 16.2 IP) over his previous four starts. *** Ramirez' seven saves have come over his last 16 outings. He owns a 1-0 record and 2.37 ERA over that stretch. *** Pickering has hit in five of his last six games (.375, 9-24), smacking a home run and driving in ten runs. He has 24 RBI over his last 20 contests (.347, 26-75, 6 HR). *** Aaron Guiel's one-out single ignited Omaha's two-run 3rd inning last night and extended his hitting streak to a season-long ten games. He's hitting .429 (18-42) with six home runs and 13 RBI during the string, raising his average 18 points to .276. *** First baseman Justin Huber has been promoted to Omaha from Wichita, where he was leading the Texas League in batting (.343) and RBI (74) and was tired for fourth in home runs (16). Huber was named Texas League Player of the Week for July 18-24, when the 23-year old Australian hit .400 (10-25) with three home runs and eight RBI. In 21 games with Wichita this month, Huber was hitting .382 with seven homers and 24 RBI. He made his big league debut with KC on June 21 and played in five games, going 3-for-12 (.250) with a double and three RBI. *** Matt Diaz has hit in six straight games (.630, 17-27, 5 RBI) and is hitting .477 (21-44) in ten tilts since coming down from KC. *** Chris Truby is hitting at a .320 clip (16-50) with four homers and ten RBI over his past 13 games. *** Paul Phillips, who was in a 10-for-62 (.161) funk at the plate prior to arriving in Portland, is 5-for-10 in this series, with one RBI and four runs scored. *** Denny Hocking owns a .421 average (16-38) over his last ten games, jumping his average 31 points to .273.
