
Sidewinders win sixth straight, top RedHawks, 4-0

Tucson Sidewinders News Release
Tucson, AZ - The Tucson Sidewinders shutout the Oklahoma RedHawks for the second consecutive night winning 4-0 at Tucson Electric Park. The win was Tucson's 6th straight victory and 10th in the last 14 games. The Sidewinders got on the board first scoring 2 runs in the bottom of the first and never looked back. The Sidewinders would add 2 more runs the rest of the way as their pitching staff shut down the RedHawks bats to earn the 4-0 victory.
Offensively the Sidewinders were led by 2B Keoni DeRenne ,3B Brian Barden and DH Nebasett Brown. DeRenne went 2-for-4 with a run, a triple and an RBI. Barden went 2-for-4 with a run, a double and an RBI. Brown went 2-for-4 with a run and a triple. 1B Jesus Cota made his Triple-A debut and went 2-for-4 with a double and just nearly missed a third hit in his first at bat of the evening.
Tucson's pitching staff received some extra help on Thursday night as both RHP Brandon Lyon and RHP Oscar Villarreal made rehab appearances. Lyon pitched a perfect first inning throwing 13 pitches 8 for strikes. Villarreal followed up Lyon's perfect inning with one of his own throwing 8 pitches, 6 for strikes, with a strikeout. Not to be out done LHP Mark Freed went scoreless 6 innings giving up only 4 hits with a walk and 4 strikeouts and earned the win. The victory was Freed's 7th of the season. RHP Kerry Ligtenberg entered the game in the 9th and shut the door to preserve the shutout.
The win moves the Sidewinders to 56-50, just 3 games behind division leading Sacramento. Tucson goes for the 4 game sweep tomorrow at Tucson Electric Park with first pitch scheduled for 7 PM. The scheduled starter for the Sidewinders is rehabbing RHP Russ Ortiz (0-0, 0.00) to be followed by RHP Edgar Gonzalez (8-4, 4.77) with RHP R.A. Dickey (3-5, 7.13) going for the RedHawks.
