
Eighth inning runs doom Zephyrs

The Las Vegas 51's scored three runs in the eighth inning rallying to defeat the visiting Zephyrs 11-8 on Thursday night. It was the second consecutive game that the 51's would score three runs in the 8th to win the game. The three runs were all unearned for Bill Bray who wore the loss, his second of the season. Willy Aybar drove home three runs for the 51's. Las Vegas utilized seven pitchers and Franquellis Osorio won for the second consecutive night. The Zephyrs would put the leadoff man on base in seven of the nine innings and would out hit Las Vegas 13-9 in the loss. Brendan Harris hah four hits in the game and Matt Cepicky drove in a pair of runs. The two teams combined for seven errors and six unearned runs. New Orleans left 11 men on base.
Game Notes: The Z's are one of five PCL teams to have a winning record on the road. New Orleans is the only one of the five teams, not in first place. Brendan Harris exited the game early with a leg injury. He was 4x4 when leaving in the 7th inning. Former Zephyr Jose Valentin hit a homer to lead off the game for the 51's. It was the first lead off homer allowed by the Z's in nearly three years. The last was Jon Nunnaly of Memphis in 2003. Jose Valentin was the Z's opening day shortstop in 1993, the first even game the New Orleans Zephyrs ever played.
