
'Cats lose shootout to Akron

Akron, OH- Travis Snider blasted a three-run homer in the top of the eighth inning, but the Fisher Cats fell to Akron 13-6 Thursday night before 3,574 at Canal Park.
The home run for Snider was his ninth of the season, which ties him for the team lead with Ryan Patterson. He now leads the Fisher Cats with 38 RBI and has hits in his last seven games.
Akron (37-26), which extended its winning streak to eight games, hit four home runs in the game. Wes Hodges hit a three-run shot off Fisher Cats starter Scott Richmond (4-7) in the last of the third inning to give the Aeros a 4-1 lead. Bronson Sardinha then hit the next pitch for his second home run of the season.
Designated hitter Ryan Goleski homered off Richmond in the last of the sixth inning, a solo shot ot put Akron up 6-1. Goleski homered in each game of the series and finished the three-game set with 7 RBI.
In the top of the seventh inning, Patterson hit his first triple of the season into the left field corner and scored on a double by Eric Nielsen to make it 6-2.
Scott Lewis (2-0), making just his second start of the season after suffering an injury in Spring Training, allowed two earned runs in 6.2 innings to pick up the win. He allowed five hits, did not walk a batter and struck out five.
Chris Gimenez (4-for-5) homered for Akron in the last of the seventh inning when the Aeros scored three more runs to extend the lead to 9-2.
After Snider's home run in the top of the eighth inning, Akron scored four more runs in the last of the eighth inning, two crossing on a single by Brandon Chavez (3-for-5, 3 RBI).
Chris Gutierrez had an RBI single in the top of the ninth inning to account for the final run for New Hampshire (23-42).
The six-game road trip continues on Friday night at 7:05pm in Erie. Radio coverage begins at 6:45pm on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network with Bob Lipman. RHP Robert Ray (0-0, 0.00) will make his Fisher Cats debut against SeaWolves RHP Andrew Kown (4-6, 4.68).
