EL1 Harrisburg Senators

Senators stifled by Binghamton

Harrisburg Senators News Release

Binghamton, NY - The Harrisburg Senators set the stage for more ninth-inning heroics in Binghamton, but could not deliver in a 1-0 loss to the B-Mets. RHP Marco Estrada delivered six shutout innings in a no-decision as the Harrisburg was held to just two hits.

The game was a pitcher's duel throughout as Estrada locked horns with Binghamton RHP Salvador Aguilar. The two combined to keep the game scoreless through six innings.

The B-Mets got on the board with an unearned run in the 7th against Senators reliever Luis Atilano. Former Senator Salomon Manriquez singled and Josh Petersen bunted right back to the mound. Atilano spun and threw to second, but the throw was wild and both runners were safe. After a strikeout, Atilano walked the bases loaded. Eric Reed followed with an RBI single to left to make it 1-0, but two Mets runners got hung up on the basepaths for an unconventional inning-ending double play.

In the top of the 9th, the Senators threatened. Roger Bernadina reached on an error and went to third on an errant pickoff throw from Binghamton closer Eddie Kunz. With the tying run at third and one out, the Senators couldn't come through. A strikeout and a flyout ended the game, with a sensational game-ending diving catch robbing Ofilio Castro of the game-tying RBI.

Aguilar (7-1) snagged the win with seven shutout innings, running his scoreless streak against the Senators to 13 innings. Kunz squeaked out his 16th save of the year. Atilano took the loss to fall to 0-1.

The Senators dipped to 36-28, but still won the three-game series. The B-Mets improved to 35-30.

The Senators travel to Bowie on Friday with a 7:05 first pitch. Harrisburg's starting pitcher is to be announced. Bowie goes with RHP Jason Berken (4-2, 4.86 ERA).
