(Trenton, NJ)- Thunder starting pitcher Jason Jones tossed a complete game, but Trenton lost to Connecticut 3-0 on Thursday night at Waterfront Park. The Thunder were swept by Connecticut, and it was the first sweep by an opponent against Trenton since 7/23-7/25/07 vs. Erie. Trenton has been shutout in back-to-back games, and now have been held without a run in 23 consecutive innings.

Connecticut (30-34) did its damage against Jones early in the contest. With a runner at first base and one out in the top of the 1st inning, Connecticut DH Travis Ishikawa connected on a two-run home run off of Jones (8-2) to give the Defenders a 2-0 lead. Ishikawa has now hit four home runs against Trenton in 9 games vs. the Thunder this season. The Defenders added a run in the 2nd inning on a solo home run by 3B Dave Maroul. Jones would settle down and toss his first career complete game for the Thunder. Tonight was his 51st career game for the Thunder (06'-08'). He allowed 8 H, struck out 5 and walked 2 in the loss. It was his first complete game since 5/16/05 for Tampa (High-A) against Brevard County in the Florida State League.

Joey Martinez (3-5) earned the win for Connecticut. He went 5 IP and scattered 5 H. He struck out 4 and walked 2. The Connecticut bullpen shut down the Thunder for the third straight night. Connecticut relievers Justin Hedrick and Kelvin Pichardo combined to toss four innings to close out the game. Pichardo picked up his second save by going the final two innings. In the series, the Connecticut bullpen pitched 12 scoreless innings. Trenton had baserunners in every single inning, and ended up stranding 10. SS Ramiro Pena went 2 x 5 in the loss with a 2B.

Trenton will look to end its mini three-game losing streak on Friday night at Reading. The Thunder start a six-game road trip on Friday night. LHP Phil Coke (4-1, 3.18) will start for Trenton against Reading RHP J.D. Durbin (0-3, 1.82). Game time is set for 7:05 p.m.
