Cats Lose 7-6 Thriller to Bees

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - The River Cats lost to the Salt Lake Bees by a score of 7-6 on Saturday night at Spring Mobile Ballpark in a game that saw the lead change hands seven different times.

The Cats took the lead in the bottom of the first when Stephen Vogt doubled home Daric Barton with one out. Salt Lake took the lead with a two-run bottom of the first, before Sacramento tied the game in the top of the second on an Andy Parrino two-run double. The River Cats took the lead with one run in the top of the fifth, but the Bees responded with two runs in the bottom half, taking a 4-3 lead into the sixth.

Sacramento tied the game in the top of the sixth on a Barton groundout, but it didn't last long as Salt Lake retook the lead in the bottom of the seventh. Each team scored twice in the eighth-accounting for the sixth and seventh lead changes of the game-giving the Bees its 7-6 victory.

Vogt went 3-for-4 with an RBI, and is 8-for-10 with seven RBI in his last two games, while Barton finished 2-for-5 with a run, three RBI and a double. Michael Taylor and Shane Peterson each went 2-for-5, and the River Cats offense connected on 12 hits in all.

Kyler Newby was charged with the loss for Sacramento, giving up two runs in 1.1 innings of work. Righty Travis Banwart took a no-decision, giving up four runs-three earned-on six hits and two walks with four strikeout sin five innings.

Ryan Brasier and former River Cat Fernando Cabrera were each charged with a blown save, while Daniel Stange won his fourth game with 1.1 scoreless innings of work.

The regular-season finale between the River Cats and Bees is set for 12:05 p.m. on Sunday afternoon when Sacramento righty Arnold Leon (1-1, 4.26 ERA) starts opposite fellow righty Barry Enright (4-5, 7.11 ERA).

Sacramento returns home for a four-game set against the Colorado Springs Sky Sox on Monday, July 22 for a homestand that will feature Bark in the Ballpark, Country Night, Miller Lite Thirsty Thursday and Toyota Family Value Tuesday.
