Memphis Redbirds News Release
MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Oklahoma City RedHawks scored three unanswered runs on three hits and three costly Memphis Redbirds errors for a 3-2 win in the finale of a four-game series on Sunday night at AutoZone Park.
Oklahoma City took three of four from Memphis in the four-game set and won the season series at AutoZone Park for the first time in franchise history since 1998 (2-6).
Memphis is a combined 18-30 against the PCL American Southern Division this season.
The Redbirds outhit the RedHawks by a 7-3 margin, thanks to a 4-for-4 night by first baseman Jamie Romak, who also stole a pair of bases and scored both Memphis runs.
A double steal accounted for the Redbirds' first run in the second inning. Romak led off with a single, stole second base and advanced to third on a Tommy Pham single. Romak then stole home as Oklahoma City catcher Carlos Perez fired to second base in attempt to throw out Pham.
Memphis moved out to a 2-0 advantage in the fourth as Romak singled and advanced to third on a Ryan Jackson single. Romak would later score on a Tommy Pham RBI groundout.
Former Cardinals farmhand Jose Martinez broke up Boone Whiting's no-hit bid with a solo homer to left with two outs in the top of the fifth. It was Martinez's third big fly of the season.
Oklahoma City added a run in the next frame to knot the contest at 2-2. Chin Hsuan-Lin singled, moved to second on a Robbie Grossman sacrifice bunt, and came around to score on a Greg Garcia fielding error.
The RedHawks went ahead at 3-2 in the eighth on an unearned run due to a throwing error on pitcher Keith Butler, who airmailed first base on a sacrifice bunt attempt. Lin, who started the frame with a walk, came all the way around from first to score the game-winning run.
Whiting allowed three hits, including a solo homer, for two runs while striking out three in six innings of work for a no-decision.
Butler (0-2) was charged with an unearned run in two innings of work for the loss, walking two and striking out three. Michael Blazek struck out one over a perfect ninth.
Wade LeBlanc (1-1) gave up two runs on six hits with no walks in seven innings for his first win of the season. Josh Zeid struck out the side to convert his 12th save, working around a hit and pair of walks.
The Redbirds continue their homestand by welcoming Manny Ramirez and the Round Rock Express (Triple-A Rangers) for a four-game series, beginning at 7:05 pm tomorrow night at AutoZone Park. Right-hander Scott McGregor (4-5, 5.13) will man the bump in the opener against Round Rock left-hander Ryan Feierabend (4-3, 3.97).
