Fresno Grizzlies News Release

Fresno, Calif. - Tacoma Rainiers designated hitter Rich Poythress hit two home runs and drove in six of the Rainiers' 11 runs as the Fresno Grizzlies lost 11-5 on Saturday at Chukchansi Park.

Poythress swatted a three-run home run in the fourth and a solo blast in the seventh before capping the Rainiers' scoring with a two-run triple in the eighth inning.

Poythress' first blast was off Grizzlies starting pitcher Mike Kickham, who faced the minimum through his first eight batters. The left-hander worked himself out of a two-out, bases loaded situation in the third, but in the fourth, Nate Tenbrink's RBI ground-rule double ignited the Tacoma offense.

Kickham allowed five runs on seven hits and a season-high five walks over four-plus innings. He walked two batters in the fifth before being lifted for reliever Fabio Castillo. It Kickham's first start with the Grizzlies since June 20th.

While Poythress powered the Rainiers offense, Brett Pill and Johnny Monell each swatted a home run apiece to offer any sort of Fresno offensive resistance. Pill's roundtripper, a mammoth 420-foot shot, was his second in as many nights and team leading 17th of the season. Monell hit a solo home run in the eighth inning, his 16th homer of the year.

Jackson Williams gave the Grizzlies a 1-0 lead in the second inning with a run-scoring single that plated Chris Dominguez. Dominguez later drove in a run with a single to left field in the sixth inning that made it 6-3 Tacoma.

Dominguez finished 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored.

Gary Brown had two walks before capping the game's scoring with an RBI single in the ninth.

Tacoma starting pitcher Blake Beavan limited the Grizzlies to three runs over six innings in the winning decision.

Dan Runzler was the lone Grizzlies pitcher to not allow a run. The lefty walked one but struck out the side in the ninth inning.

The Rainiers registered 14 hits. In addition to Poythress, Abraham Almonte, Jesus Montero, and Jason Jaramillo had multi-hit efforts with two hits apiece. Montero added two walks to go with his two hits.

The Grizzlies and Rainiers will meet for the final time in the 2013 regular season on Sunday at 6:05 pm. Fresno's Justin Fitzgerald will face Tacoma's Chance Ruffin.
