Rivera, Aces Walk-Off in Twelfth
July 21, 2013 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Reno Aces News Release
RENO, Nev.-Juan Rivera's RBI single in the bottom of the twelfth gave the Reno Aces their first extra innings victory of the season on Saturday night, in a 5-4 win over the Las Vegas 51's at Aces Ballpark.
Brad Snyder begin the inning with a single to center, before pitcher Charles Brewer executed a perfect sacrifice bunt to advance Snyder to second. After Tuffy Gosewisch flied out to center for the second out of the inning, Las Vegas intentionally walked Josh Wilson. Rivera's single plated Wilson for Reno's fourth walk-off of the season.
Neither club scored a run past the fourth inning, until Reno's winning run in the twelfth. The Aces had 12 hits on the night, none of which went for extra bases.
Snyder went 3-for-6 on the night, scoring three of Reno's five runs. Each player in Reno's starting lineup recorded at least one hit, except for starting pitcher Mike Bolsinger.
Bolsinger threw his sixth quality start in nine games for the Aces, but did not factor into the decision. He gave up four runs-only one of which was earned-on five hits, with six strikeouts through 6.0 innings.
Three Reno relievers combined to shutout the 51's over the final 6.0 frames, allowing just four hits and striking out a combined eight Las Vegas batters. Reliever Evan Marshall was credited with his third win of the season.
Before tonight, Reno had only one game this season go past the tenth inning, in a 15-inning affair on April 6 at Colorado Springs.
The series wraps up Sunday night at Aces Ballpark, as Reno looks to secure its 11th series split of the season. RHP Brandon McCarthy (0-0, No ERA) will get the nod for Reno to begin his Major League Rehabilitation Assignment, while the 51's will counter with RHP RHP Chris Schwinden (4-8, 5.70 ERA). First pitch is set for 6:05 p.m. PT for another Renown Children's Hospital Family Funday.
Tickets are on sale for Sunday's game, and all Aces home games, at RenoAces.com, by calling (775) 334-7000 or by visiting the Aces Ballpark Ticket Office.
