Tri-City ValleyCats News Release

BROOKLYN, NY - After going an entire three-game series against the Connecticut Tigers without allowing an earned run, the Tri-City ValleyCats began the second half of their six-game season-opening road trip with a 14-0 defeat at the hands of the Brooklyn Cyclones.

The Cyclones broke into the scoring column in the first inning, when cleanup hitter Michael Bernal hit a two-run home run to left field off of 'Cats starter Harold Arauz.

They then went on to score four runs in the third inning, two in the fourth, one in the sixth, and five in the seventh, although five ValleyCats pitchers did combine to strike out nine batters in eight innings. That improves Tri-City's strikeout total to 39 through four games, which is tied with the Cyclones for the most among all New York-Penn League teams.

The 'Cats will look to get back on the winning track on Wednesday in game two of the three-game set. On the mound for Tri-City will be LHP Scott Weathersby, who will be making his professional debut, while LHP Kevin Canelon will start for the Cyclones.
