BROOKLYN, NY - June 22, 2015 - Making up for the home opener on Friday tenfold, MCU Park saw astounding success as right-hander Matt Blackham (1-0) threw 7.0 shut out innings in his Brooklyn debut as the Cyclones defeated the Tri-City ValleyCats 14-0. Tucker Tharp went 4-for-4 with a franchise record five runs scored to pace the Brooklyn bats.

The Cyclones offense came in hot. It started with outfielder Tucker Tharp, who singled and took second on a throwing error by shortstop Keach Ballard. Although it looked uncertain as Tri-City's Harold Arauz struck out the next two batters swinging, outfielder Michael Bernal stepped up and blasted a line drive two-run home run to center field, giving Brooklyn an early lead.

There was still hope for the ValleyCats as both teams were held scoreless in the second. However, after a pair of singles by Tharp and infielder Vinny Siena, infielder Michael Katz hit a sacrifice fly and Bernal hit a line drive to bring Tharp home. This was only the beginning. Jeff Diehl came up and singled, brining Siena home and keeping two runners on base. Jose Garcia then hit a line drive double that brought Bernal and Diehl home, and the Cyclones ended the third with a 6-0 lead.

Brooklyn offense lit up the scoreboard once again in the fourth. A pair of singles from Fulmer and Tharp got the Cyclones on base and both runners advanced off a passed ball. After Siena walked, the bases were loaded with no outs when Katz stepped up to plate. The infielder hit a single to right field as Fulmer scored, and Bernal hit a sacrifice fly to center that brought Tharp home. Brooklyn took an 8-0 lead.

Both teams remained scoreless through the fifth inning but the Cyclones continued to solidify their lead in the sixth. Tharp singled on a line drive to left field, advanced to second and third on a pair of passed balls, and was brought home on a sacrifice fly by Katz. The Cyclones advanced to 9-0.

After another quick inning pitched by Blackham, Brooklyn did not wasted any time. It started when catcher Nathanael Ramos reached first on a fielding error by first baseman Dexture McCall. Tri-City right-hander Juan Santos proceeded to walk Kaupe, Fulmer, and Tharp, while Ramos tacked another run on the board for the Cyclones. Siena then doubled, bringing home Kaupe and Fulmer. Tharp scored following a ground out by Perez, while Zabala grounded out to bring Siena home. The Cyclones took a staggering 14-0 lead that they would hold for the rest of the game.

After seven shutout innings pitched, Christian Montgomery came in to relieve Blackham for the eighth and threw a quick scoreless inning. Corey Taylor came in for ninth inning to finish off the Cyclones shutout and conclude an extraordinary night at MCU Park.

The Cyclones continue their six-game home stand Tuesday night for the second game of the series against the ValleyCats. Southpaw Kevin Canelon will take the mound in his first start of the season for Brooklyn.
