Brooklyn Cyclones News Release
BROOKLYN, NY - Behind a season-high 10 runs, the Cyclones surged back into the win column on Friday night, topping the Renegades, 10-3. Brooklyn utilized a five-run 8th inning - their highest output in a single frame so far this year - to break the game open down the stretch.
John Bay had a pair of hits and a pair of runs scored.
RHP Frank Camarillo looked sharp in his High-A debut. The Mets 13th rounder out of UC-Santa Barbara chucked 6.0 frames of two-run ball en route to picking up the win. Camarillo gave up four hits, walked only one and struck out three.
3B Yonatan Henriquez finished with a three-hit day. The switch-hitter doubled, scored a run, and drove one in. RF John Bay also collected multiple knocks, finishing 2-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI.
The two squads traded zeroes through the first three frames. RHP Sean Paul Liñan was outstanding to start for the Renegades, retiring the first nine that he faced, striking out eight during that span.
Hudson Valley scored the game's first run in the top half of the 4th. 1B Kyle West drove a 1-out double to left field. Two batters later, 3B Roderick Arias drove him home on a ground ball through the middle to give the 'Gades a 1-0 lead.
The Brooklyn bats got to Liñan in the 4th. SS Mitch Voit was hit by a pitch to start the frame. He'd take 2nd on a wild pitch and advance to 3rd on Bay's first hit of the night. Bay then stole second base, as C Josue Gonzalez tried to throw behind Voit at 3rd. His throw sailed into left field for an E2 on the pickoff attempt, enabling Voit to tie the game.
After 1B Corey Collins drew a walk, C Daiverson Gutierrez pounded an RBI groundout to 2nd, plating Bay from 3rd to give Brooklyn a 2-1 lead. With a man on 2nd and one out, Henriquez grounded a ball through on the left side for a base knock, scoring Collins. Henriquez ended up at 3rd, as Gonzalez committed his second error of the inning, trying to get Henriquez at 2nd as he took the extra bag.
Brooklyn's final run of the frame came on Liñan's first career balk, plating Henriquez from 3rd to give the 'Clones a 4-1 lead.
Hudson Valley got one back in the 5th. With two outs, RF Camden Troyer clobbered his 5th home run of the year to right field, making it a 4-2 ballgame.
Brooklyn scratched one across against the Hudson Valley 'pen in the 7th. With the bases loaded in two down, Gutierrez drew a bases-loaded walk to push across the 'Clones 5th run of the night.
The Renegades punched back in the 8th. LF Josh Moylan took RHP Joe Jacques deep in his Brooklyn debut, shaving their deficit to 5-3.
Brooklyn erupted with their largest inning of the season in the 8th. RF J.T. Benson doubled to start the frame, before LF Sam Biller was hit by a pitch. DH Nick Roselli then reached on a fielder's choice, during which Hudson Valley committed two throwing errors on the play. RHP Andrew Landry fielded Roselli's grounder, and threw wide right of second base. 2B Enmanuel Tejeda tried to salvage the sure thing out at first, but his throw was wide of first, scoring Benson as a result.
With men on 1st and 3rd, 2B Diego Mosquera walked to load the bases. Then, SS Mitch Voit skied a sac fly to right field to make it 7-3, as Biller scored and Roselli advanced to 3rd.
Bay then roped an RBI base hit into right field, and took second on the throw in. Brooklyn's lead sat at 8-3 with two in scoring position and still just one out.
Finally, 1B Corey Collins laced a ball to first, as 1B Kyle West committed a fielding error, enabling two more runs to score, pushing the lead to 10-3.
RHP Garrett Stratton worked a scoreless 9th inning to secure the victory for the 'Clones.
Brooklyn and Hudson Valley return to action at 2:00 on Saturday afternoon. RHP Brady Miller (0-1, 3.60 ERA) projects to make his Maimonides Park debut against Hudson Valley's LHP Franyer Herrera (2-1, 3.76 ERA).
