Hudson Valley Renegades News Release
Wappingers Falls, NY (6/22/15)- The Hudson Valley Renegades played their 2015 home opener on Monday evening at Dutchess Stadium against the Lowell Spinners. But it wasn't the Renegades day as they fell to the New York-Penn League Stedler Division leading Spinners by a score of 6-1.
The first half of the game was a pitchers duel between Lowell's Jose Almonte (1-0) and Hudson Valley's Travis Ott. Both pitchers combined to allow just five hits through the first four and a half innings of play with Almonte striking out five batters and Ott striking out four.
The 'Gades scored the games first run in the bottom of the fifth inning as designated hitter Hector Montes tripled to lead off the inning and came home on third baseman Alex Schmidt's RBI groundout. Hudson Valley continued to hold a 1-0 lead into the seventh inning before the Spinners tying the game with designated Tucker Tubbs doubling and coming home on a passed ball later in the inning to tie the game.
Chad De La Guerra drove in the second run of the inning on an RBI ground out to give the Spinners a 2-1 lead after seven. Lowell scored a run in the eighth inning on Mitchell Gunsolus's RBI single and picked up three more runs in the top of the ninth inning, giving the Spinners a 6-1 lead.
Almonte picked up the win for Lowell, tossing six innings and struck out five batters, while allowing a run off two hits. Tim Ingram (0-1) took the loss for Hudson Valley, giving up two runs and one earned run in an inning of work. Lowell's Edwar Garcia picked up a three inning save, striking out four batters and walking just one.
Notes: Of the Renegades six hits on the night, four of them were for extra bases. Montes hit a triple and a double, second baseman Jake Cronenworth lined a double down the left field line and shortstop Michael Russell hit a double in the bottom of the ninth inning. That gives the Renegades a total of 18 extra base hits this season in four games.
