Tri-City ValleyCats News Release
AUBURN, NY - The Doubledays pounded out 11 runs on nine hits, with nine of the runs coming in the sixth and seventh innings, as Auburn defeated the ValleyCats 11-4 on Thursday night at Falcon Park.
The starter for the 'Cats, Luis Ordosgoitti allowed four runs (three earned) on just three hits in five and two-thirds innings, but the Doubledays offense proved to be too much for the 'Cats, as they beat up the bullpen for another seven runs in the final three frames.
At the plate, the ValleyCats outhit Auburn 12-9, but left seven men on base. Bobby Boyd and Juan Santana each went 3-for-5, and Jose Solano was 2-for-4 with two doubles.
The ValleyCats got on the board early, scoring one run in the first on a RBI single by Juan Santana.
However, that was the only lead the 'Cats would ever see, as the Doubledays re-took the lead in the third inning and never looked back.
Auburn scored four times in the sixth, with the big blow coming with two outs and the bases loaded. Cody Gunter would hit a single over first baseman Ariel Ovando's head, to score all three runners.
In the top half of the seventh, the ValleyCats got a run back on a RBI single by Alfredo Gonzalez, but Auburn would score five more runs in the bottom half, to put the game out of reach.
ValleyCats slugging outfielder, Terrell Joyce continued his hot hitting, smashing a two run home run in eighth inning to extend his hitting streak to six games. Across that span, Joyce has also driven in 13 runs.
The 'Cats and Doubledays will play the rubber match of the series on Friday night in Auburn. Robert Kahana will make his first start for the 'Cats after being promoted from Greeneville on August 4.
Kahana, a Hawaii native, was drafted in the 32nd round of this year's MLB Draft out of the University of Kansas. He was 1-1 with a 3.64 ERA in nine appearances with Greeneville.
