Lake Monsters Surge Back, Beat IronBirds 4-2

After taking a 2-0 lead in the fifth inning, the IronBirds' bullpen faltered late, allowing the Vermont Lake Monsters to take a 4-2 victory. Justin Viele and Alex Murphy accounted for the only Aberdeen RBIs, with an RBI double and single respectively. Stefan Crichton and Matt Trowbridge struggled in relief, allowing a combined total of eight hits, four earned runs, two walks, and no strikeouts.

Murphy's Hit Extends Streak

Alex Murphy's RBI single in the fifth inning extended his hitting streak to eight games. He had a nine game hitting streak earlier this year, from June 17th through June 26th. Austin Anderson has the longest streak of the season at 10 games, a streak that stretched from July 7th to July 17th. Murphy's current streak began on July 29th with a three hit game against the Tri-City ValleyCats.

Started from the Bottom...

The IronBirds number-nine hitter, Cory Segui, recorded the only multi-hit game of the day for Aberdeen. Segui went two-for-four with a double, a single, and one run scored. In the month of August, he's hitting .364 (4 hits in 11 at-bats), with 3 runs scored, one double, and one RBI.

Tanner 'K'hleborad

IronBirds ' starting pitcher Tanner Chleborad set a career-high in strikeouts in his four innings pitched, striking out three Lake Monsters. He also allowed two hits, no runs, and just one walk. Chleborad has yet to allow a run in twelve innings. His last allowed run came in the fourth inning of the July 24 game versus the Connecticut Tigers.

On the Mound Tonight

The IronBirds will send RHP Lucas Long to the mound tonight against Vermont. Long, who was selected in the 24th-round of the 2014 MLB Draft by the Orioles, has only made one appearance on the year, earning the loss in a July 31 start against the State College Spikes. He allowed 7 hits, three earned runs, no walks, and struck out five in his 3.2 innings pitched. The Lake Monsters will send RHP Corey Miller, the Oakland Athletics' 10th-round selection in the 2014 MLB Draft, to the hill tonight as he makes his sixth start on the year for Vermont.
