Norwich Sea Unicorns News Release
Norwich, CT "" The Jamestown Jammers (23-29) defeated the Connecticut Tigers (27-26) by the score of 3-2 night at Dodd Stadium. For the second consecutive night the Jammers survived a ninth inning rally by the Tigers. With the tying run on second base, RHP Same Street (S, 4) was able to get SS Garrett Mattlage (0-4) to groundout out to 1B Kevin Ross (0-4) to end the game.
Tigers RHP Fernando Perez (4-3) suffered a tough third loss of the season as he was unable to get any run support from the offense. Perez pitched six strong innings while giving up two runs on seven hits. RHP Paul Voelker kept the Tigers in the game as he pitched two perfect innings as he struck out four of the six batters he faced. Errors once again played a factor for Connecticut as the team committed four errors. Going into last night's game, the Tigers only once had a four error game. The Tigers have now recorded two consecutive four error performances. Mattlage committed three of the teams four errors and had a key throwing error in the top of the ninth inning that allowed the third run of the game to score which gave the Jammers a 3-0 lead. It turned out to be a very important insurance run for Jamestown.
The offense for the second consecutive night found themselves needing a late stage rally to tie or win the game. The Tigers were held to three hits over the first eight innings, but then put up two runs on three hits in the ninth inning. The offense continues to not produce early run support for their pitching staff and it is the biggest reason why they need late rallies to get back into the games over their last three games dating back to the series finale with the Brooklyn Cyclones. PH Rashad Brown (0-1) and 1B Will Maddox (1-4) each chipped in with RBI's in the loss.
In the series finale, Tigers RHP Josh Heddinger (0-2, 5.06) is slated to face Jammers RHP Montana DuRapau (1-1, 2.68).
