Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
(Allentown, Pa) - Ali Castillo was Wednesday night's hero as he hit a walk-off RBI single against Shane Carle (3-1) in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (32-30) a 3-2 win over the Gwinnett Stripers (35-29).
The games starting pitching matchup between Drew Anderson and Kolby Allard lived up to its expectation through the first four innings as both lineups struggled to get any momentum going.
The Stripers did strike first in the top of the fifth inning as they scored two runs off Anderson for a 2-0 lead. Travis Demeritte hit a two-run double with two outs to get Gwinnett on the scoreboard first.
Anderson left after five innings and passed the ball to Josh Martin who pitched two scoreless innings in relief. Lehigh Valley got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the seventh inning against Allard as Deivy Grullon scored on a sacrifice fly from Damek Tomscha.
The IronPigs tied the game at 2-2 against Carle in the bottom of the eighth inning as Andrew Romine hit an RBI double to score Castillo. Josh Tols pitched a scoreless top of the eighth inning, while Alexis Rivero (2-1) pitched a scoreless top of the ninth inning to earn his second win of the season.
The IronPigs play for the sweep on Thursday evening against Gwinnett. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
