Idaho Steelheads News Release
Boise, ID (2/22/13) - Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Brad Ralph announced Friday morning that defenseman Matt Case has been loaned by the ECHL's Idaho Steelheads to Manchester of the American Hockey League.
The American Hockey League (AHL) is the highest level of minor-league hockey in North America. This will be Case's third trip to the AHL, having also skated with Norfolk ('09-'10) and Texas ('11-'12).
The Plymouth, MN, product is in the midst of a career year with the Steelheads, having already surpassed his previous professional highs in goals (6), assists (29) and points (35). His plus/minus rating of plus-31 is tops in the ECHL and he also ranks in the top-15 in the league in power-play assists with 13. He's in his third season with the Steelheads out of Ferris State.
With the recall of Case, Idaho has now seen 14 players recalled from its roster to the American Hockey League at some point this season - Case, Justin Dowling, Gord Baldwin, Patrick Cullity, Kael Mouillierat, Austin Fyten, Andrew Carroll, Jeremie Blain, Josh Robinson, Tyler Beskorowany, Jace Coyle, Hubert Labrie, Austin Smith and Mathieu Tousignant. A 15th player, Nick Johnson of the Phoenix Coyotes, played briefly with Idaho during the NHL lockout.
Case's departure leaves Ralph with five active defensemen for Friday's home game against San Francisco - Blain, Cullity, Scott Todd, James Isaacs and Ken Trentowski. William Lacasse and John Ryder are both currently inactive due to injury.
