Greenville Swamp Rabbits News Release
North Charleston, SC: South Carolina Stingrays netminder Ryan Zapolski shutout the Road Warriors for the first time this season in a 2-0 victory.
The first period of play brought two Stingrays power plays but neither converted. South Carolina outshot the Road Warriors 8-5 in the first frame.
Greenville upped the intensity in the second and outshot South Carolina 17-7. The shot barrage could not beat Zapolski, who stood strong in net. Greenville had three power plays in the period. Just under five minutes left, Jay Silvia scored his first ECHL goal on a deflection that squeaked past Greenville goaltender Connor Knapp.
Phil Mangan scored just 1:58 into the third period on a breakaway. His 12th goal of the year came as soon as he stepped out of the penalty box on a pass from Andrew Cherniwchan. Zapolski made 32 saves and earned the victory as he shutout the Road Warriors for the first time since February 25, 2012. Knapp took his second ECHL loss saving 20 shots.
The Road Warriors return to North Charleston tomorrow at 7 p.m. against the South Carolina Stingrays. The game can be heard via America One or by clicking the listen live link on the Road Warriors homepage!
