Cascalenda Scores First Professional Goal in 4-2 Loss to Cyclones

North Charleston, SC - The South Carolina Stingrays (35-16-5-6) fell to the Cincinnati Cyclones (38-19-4-5) 4-2 in front of 5,107 at North Charleston Coliseum Friday night. Stingrays defenseman Jay Cascalenda scored his first professional goal and goaltender Todd Ford stopped 21 of 25 Cyclones shots in his first start since December 27.

After a scoreless first period, the Cyclones broke the tie at 6:27 of the second period off a shot from forward Jimmy Kilpatrick from the top of the right-wing circle beating Stingrays goaltender Todd Ford between the legs. Cyclones forward Scott Reynolds earned the lone assist on Kilpatrick's 11 goal of the season. The Stingrays tied the game on the power play at 10:37 from rookie Trevor Bruess. Defenseman Jason Fredricks and forward Rob Ricci registered assists.

The Cyclones made it 2-1 early in the third period as former Stingrays forward Maxime Lacroix fired a shot over the glove of Ford at 3:20 for his 14 goal of the season. Forward Dustin Sproat and Kilpatrick recorded assists. Cincinnati grabbed a two-goal lead at 5:23 off a blast from defenseman Brian O'Hanley from Kilpatrick and defenseman Patrick Prokop. The Stingrays pulled within one at 7:51 as Cascalenda buried a shot under the left arm of Cyclones goaltender Robert Mayer. Rookie Dain Prewitt and forward Spencer Carbery notched assists. Moments later Cyclones forward Brett Robinson iced the game at 8:42 from forward Ryan Del Monte. Mayer earned his third win over the Stingrays stopping 20 of 22 shots. The Stingrays ended the night 1-for-6 on the power play while the Cyclones went 0-for-2.

The Stingrays and Cyclones cross sticks one final time on Sunday, March 7 at 4:00 p.m at North Charleston Coliseum. Sunday is the Kid's Day featuring $5 kid's tickets and a pre-game kid's carnival.
