Everett Silvertips News Release

EVERETT, Wash. - The Everett Silvertips (@WHLSilvertips), in conjunction with the Western Hockey League, announced today that goaltender Carter Hart has been named WHL Goaltender of the Week for the fourth straight week and 13th overall in his career.

Hart, 19, who was selected by the Philadelphia Flyers in the second round, 48th overall, of the 2016 NHL Draft, earned victories in all three appearances last week, along with his franchise record 24th shutout of his career. Hart posted a .982 save percentage and 0.67 goals-against-average with the Silvertips defeating Portland last Wednesday, 4-1 (28 saves, third star), shutting out Spokane in a 3-0 win last Friday (39 saves, first star), and taking a 2-1 victory on Saturday in Portland (42 saves, second star).

Hart helped the Silvertips run their winning streak to nine straight games, moving to within one point of first place in the U.S. Division. Hart has surrendered just one power play goal in the last 17 penalty kill opportunities, and for December is 5-0-0-0 with a 0.60 goals-against-average and .983 save percentage with a pair of shutouts.

He is two shutouts away from tying the league record, set by Tyson Sexsmith (Vancouver), and is set to participate in selection camp for Hockey Canada in the upcoming 2018 World Junior Championships.

Originally drafted by the Silvertips in the eighth round, 158th overall, of the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft, Hart has played his entire WHL career with the Silvertips and has compiled a 98-43-9-10 record with a 2.05 goals against average and .926 SV% with the club. Hart earned his 22nd career WHL shutout on November 22 against the Tri-City Americans, passing Leland Irving to become the Silvertips' franchise leader in shutouts. He is nine victories shy of tying Irving for most goaltending wins in Silvertips history.

The Sherwood Park, Alberta native currently leads the WHL in goals against average (1.32) and SV% (.961). He's sixth in the league with 13 wins and leads the league with five shutouts this season. Last month, Hart represented Team WHL at the 2017 CIBC Canada Russia Series, earning a 20-save shutout in the opening game of the series at Mosaic Place in Moose Jaw, Sask. and was named Vaughn WHL Goaltender of the Month.
