Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release
Bowling Green, Ky. - The weather finally cooperated and allowed the Bowling Green Hot Rods (Class-A/Tampa Bay Rays) start their three-game series with the Lake County Captains (Cleveland Indians) on Wednesday afternoon, but the Captains used seven home runs to sweep a doubleheader from the Hot Rods in identical score lines, 7-2.
Game one's scoring began with a four-run rally in the third inning for the Captains, and it was highlighted by the first of the home runs. Logan Vick singled home Claudio Bautista to commence the scoring, and Clint Frazier highlighted the inning with a three-run home run to left field, his fifth of the season.
Vick added a home run of his own in the fourth, and a home run by Paul Hendrix stretched the lead even further in the fifth. Grant Fink's run-scoring single gave the Captains their seventh run of game one.
The Hot Rods scored both of their runs in the bottom of the fourth, as Darryl George hit a ground-rule double that hopped over the center-field wall and allowed Kean Wong to score. The game's final run was added when a wild pitch forced Johnny Field home, giving the game one its final margin of 7-2.
The long ball proved effective once again for Lake County in game two. Nellie Rodriguez led off the second inning with a home run to center field, and Richard Stock would later follow with a two-run home run to right-center field. The inning was capped by Brian Ruiz crossing the plate after Claudio Bautista tripled to left field.
Home runs by Hendrix and Fink in the third would expand the Lake County advantage, which swelled to 7-0. Bowling Green would get on the board with a single by James Harris that plated Armando Araiza in the fourth. The final run crossed in the bottom of the seventh, as Yoel Araujo was sent home on a base hit by Spencer Edwards.
Dace Kime (3-9) recorded the win in game one by working into the sixth. The former University of Louisville star surrendered just two runs on six hits. Justin Brantley (1-0) tossed two innings out of the bullpen to win game two.
Jake Faria (3-4) made his first start since he participated in the Midwest League All-Star Game, but he allowed seven runs (six earned) before being removed in the fifth inning. Jorge Rodriguez (2-4) took the loss in game two.
The Hot Rods will attempt to get back on the winning side of the standings on Thursday night when they wrap-up the three-game homestand on a 96.7 WBVR - The Beaver Thirsty Thursday. Drink specials begin when the gates open at 6 p.m. CT, and first pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. CT.
