GENEVA, Ill. - Jacob Rogers nearly gave the Cougars another home victory with a dramatic ninth inning, but Johnny Davis made an excellent play on a ball that stayed in the park and Wisconsin drew even in the series against the Cougars. With a 3-2 win Wednesday afternoon, the Timber Rattlers (5-1, 41-34) are one win away from being the only team to take a series from the Cougars (4-2, 49-27) at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark this season.

Trailing 3-2 in the ninth, Jeimer Candelario drew a one-out walk to represent the tying run. Cael Brockmeyer was due up, but instead Mark Johnson called for a pinch hitter in Rogers, who was most recently named the Midwest League Player of the Week. On a 2-2 count, Rogers drove a ball to deep right center field that looked to be ticketed for the patio deck. Instead Wisconsin's center fielder read the ball perfectly and made a leaping grab into the wall. Candelario was on his way to third base when the ball was caught, and had to back track all the way to first base. Davis instantly fired the baseball onto the infield, doubling up Candelario to put away the ballgame.

The Cougars' two runs came from their two hottest hitters in Kyle Schwarber and Jacob Hannemann. Schwarber not only contributed at the plate with a solo home run in the third, but also threw out two base stealers in his second game behind the plate. Schwarber's blast was his second as a Cougar and sixth in his professional career of 11 games. He also stole a base.

After Wisconsin tied up the score in the fourth, Hannemann stole home for a 2-1 Cougars advatange. Drawing a one-out walk, Hannemann stole second, moved to third on a wild pitch and headed for home on a squeeze attempt with Carlos Penalver at the plate. The offering from Timber Rattlers' starter Anthony Banda was in the dirt, but Hannemann took off for the dish for his second steal home this season.

After Tyler Skulina worked five innings of one-run baseball, Zak Hermans (2-2) loaded the bases without allowing a hit in the sixth. Corbin Hoffner finished two and two-third hitless innings, but suffered the blown save for being on the mound during the Wisconsin comeback.

Anthony Banda (4-5) earned the win with five innings of two-run baseball. Victor Diaz picked up his first save of the year with four hitless frames.

Thursday's rubber game begins at 6:30 p.m. from Fifth Third Bank Ballpark. Daury Torrez (7-3, 3.48) will take the mound for the Cougars against Wisconsin's Tristan Archer (2-2, 3.98). For tickets call 630-232-8811 or visit kccougars.com.
