Lake County Captains News Release
(Eastlake, OH)--Chris Gimenez hit a two-run homer and Johnny Drennen had an RBI double Friday night as the Lake County Captains began the second half of the season with a 4-1 victory over the Delmarva Shorebirds at Classic Park.
Gimenez stroked his fourth homer of the year in the third inning off Reid Hamblet (3-6), a two-run shot which gave the Captains a 4-1 lead.
After falling behind 1-0 in the first inning, the Captains (1-0) scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the first on an RBI double to center by Drennen and a sacrifice fly by Mike Conroy.
Drennen, who entered the game hitting .303, was 2-4 in the game. He also singled in the third prior to the Gimenez homer.
Captains starter Carlton Smith (3-3) worked five solid innings, allowing one run on four hits. He walked three and struck out five.
The Captains bullpen trio of Cody Bunkelman (2 IP), Albert Vargas (1 IP) and Matt Davis (1 IP) combined to throw four scoreless innings. Davis worked around a bases-loaded jam in the ninth to post his 17th save of the season.
The Captains and Shorebirds will play a doubleheader Saturday night beginning at 6:05, to make up Thursday night's rainout. Gates at Classic Park will open at 5:00. The first 2,000 fans receive a free Captains baseball cap courtesy of Lake Hospital System.
