Greenville Drive News Release
Hickory, NC - The Greenville Drive only needed one key hit from Chris Turner as they got superb pitching from starter Clay Buchholz in their 2-0 victory over the Hickory Crawdads Friday night at L.P. Frans Stadium. The Drive, who are 37-35 on the season, have now won their first two games of the second half of the season.
The only runs of the ballgame came in the top of the fourth inning. After retiring the first two batters of the inning, Hickory starter Luis Munoz (4-2) ran into trouble when he walked Logan Sorensen to setup Chris Turner's blast. Turner belted Munoz's offering to left for his fifteenth home run of the season. It was also Turner's second straight game with a long ball.
Greenville starter Clay Buchholz was also masterful on the mound, tossing 5.0 shutout innings allowing four hits and striking out five before giving way to left-hander Tim Cox. The win improved Buchholz to 4-2 on the season. Cox then chipped in for 3.0 shutout innings, allowing a hit while striking out four. In the bottom of the sixth, Cox sent the âDads packing by striking out the side. Closer Blake Maxwell earned his ninth save of the season, pitching a perfect ninth inning by striking out the final two batters.
The Drive and Crawdads continue their four-game series Saturday night at 7 PM when Greenville sends right-hander Michael Bowden to the mound. Hickory will challenge with right-hander Todd Redmond. The Drive return home to West End Field on June 26th when they begin an eight-game home stand beginning with the Lexington Legends for a four-game showdown.
Tickets to all Drive home games can be purchased by calling the Drive Ticket Office at 864-240-4528 or online at www.GreenvilleDrive.com.
