
Catfish, Sand Gnats Split Doubleheader

Columbus, GA - The Columbus Catfish (1-1) and Savannah Sand Gnats (1-1) played two very different games Friday at Golden Park. The Sand Gnats jumped on top early and beat the Catfish 10-4 in the first game, but Columbus fought back with hard hitting to take the second game 7-2.
The Sand Gnats were efficient in scoring 10 runs on 12 hits in the first game. Six runs in the third inning put the Catfish in an 8-1 hole they were unable to climb out of.
LF Lucas May went 3-for-3 with one double and one RBI. 1B Jason Mooneyham hit his first home run of the season, a solo shot in the fourth inning.
RHP Craig Stammen (5-7) picked up the win for Savannah by allowing just two runs, one earned, in six innings. RHP Mario Alvarez (4-6) took the loss after giving up eight runs on eight hits in three innings.
The Catfish responded with hard hitting in the second game. They tallied seven runs on 10 hits, five of which went for extra bases. RF Sergio Pedroza slammed a solo home run to take the South Atlantic League lead with 16. May drove in one run with a triple and Mooneyham added two hits and two RBI.
CF Bridger Hunt made his first professional hit memorable. In the fourth inning he stroked a hit to the gap in right-center field and hustled his way around the bases for an inside-the-park home run. C Juan Apodaca was 1-for-3 to extend his hitting streak to 12 games.
LHP Marlon Arias limited the Sand Gnats to two runs, one earned, on four hits and one walk. Arias (7-4) picked up the win with five innings of work. LHP John Lannan gave up seven runs, six earned, on 10 hits and one walk.
