
RiverDogs Take Game Two

Rome, GA - Tonight at State Mutual Stadium, a crowd of 3,031 watched as the Charleston RiverDogs defeated the Rome Braves 10-5.
Charleston got things started in the first inning after two batters reached base and scored on a three run homer by Ben Jones. C.J. Henry added another run after he doubled to right and later scored on an Eduardo Nunez groundout to give Charleston the 4-0 lead. The Braves rallied in their half of the first inning when Ovandy Suero reached base on a fielding error and stole second. Elvis Andrus then walked, Eric Campbell singled to left field to score Suero and advance Andrus to third. Cody Clark then grounded out allowing Suero to score and cut the Charleston lead to 4-2. The RiverDogs had a big third inning scoring three runs on three hits highlighted by singles off the bats of Jose Tabata, Henry, and Tim Battle to give Charleston the 7-2 advantage. The RiverDogs had another three run inning in the seventh as Jose Tabata and Eduardo Nunez each singled and Battle had a run-scoring double to extend the Charleston lead to 10-2. In the eighth inning, Maximiliano Ramirez got the Braves off to a good start by drawing a walk. He advanced to second on a wild pitch and then scored on a Jordan Schafer single to center. Jamie Romak ripped a single to center, moving Schafer to third. Derrick Arnold then sent a sacrifice fly to center, allowing Schafer to cross home plate making the score 10-4. In the bottom of the ninth, the Braves added another run when Jose Camerana drove the ball to right field for a single, moved to second on a wild pitch, reached third on a fielding error, and scored on a Ramirez groundout. The final score was 10-5 as Charleston took game two of the four game series.
Erick Abreu (1-0 3.14 ERA) earned the win for Charleston and reliever Robert Swindle picked up the save. Rome's Asher Demme (2-3 4.03 ERA) got the loss.
Tomorrow night Rome and Charleston face off again in game three of the series. Jake Stevens (0-0 1.50 ERA) takes the mound for the Braves and left-hander Zach Kroenke (5-2 3.53 ERA) will start for the RiverDogs.
