RiverDogs home for eight starting Monday

CHARLESTON, SC - The Charleston RiverDogs begin an eight-game homestand Monday, June 26, at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park by hosting the Columbus Catfish (Los Angeles Dodgers) at 7:05 pm. The homestand is highlighted by the annual Independence Day Celebration with post-game fireworks on Monday, July 3. The Catfish are in town for four games followed by the First-Half South Atlantic League Champion Rome Braves (Atlanta Braves) who will take on the RiverDogs in a four-game series to round out the homestand. The RiverDogs close out their current road trip at Rome Sunday afternoon

The homestand begins on Monday, June 26 with a Dogs With A Cause night benefiting Lowcountry Environmental Education Program (LEEP). The RiverDogs will also be hosting former Porter-Gaud standout and current Baltimore Raven football player Ovie Mughelli. Mughelli, a fourth-round draft pick in 2004 out of Wake Forest, will be on hand to throw out the first pitch prior to the 7:05 game. The game is presented by 98X.

Tuesday, June 27 is another Harris Teeter "Two for Tuesday" as VIC card holders can present their card at the box office for a two for one ticket special The game begins at 7:05 and is presented by WJNI.

June 28 is another Burger King "Whopper Wednesday," as four lucky fans sitting in general admission seats will be instantly upgraded to the "King's Seats" behind home plate. Wear your green and bring your shillelagh as Wednesday is also the annual Irish Night featuring performers from the Drake School of Irish Dance as well as green beer and a hunt for a pot of gold. Wednesdays also feature $1 hot dogs, as part of the "Critical Weenie Wednesday" promotion, presented by 96 Wave.

It's "Thirsty Thursday" presented by Wild Wing Café and 95 SX on June 29. There will be dollar drink specials at the Ashley View Pub.

The four-game set against Rome begins on Friday, June 30 with a "GEICO Friday Night Fireworks." The game will feature a post-game fireworks extravaganza as well as the popular post game fortune cookie giveaway, as the RiverDogs continue their celebration of the Chinese Year of the Dog. In addition to the post game fireworks show RiverDogs will be honoring The Man of Steel- Superman and baseball's Man of Steal Rickey Henderson. The game begins at 7:05 and is presented by Q 104.5 FM.

Every Saturday night during the 2006 season is a giveaway night and on Saturday, July 1 the RiverDogs will be giving away a complete team set of baseball cards, courtesy of American Discoveries and Excursions. The RiverDogs roster boasts many of the Yankees top prospects and the cards, given to the first 1,000 fans through the gates, are certain to become collector's items. The gates open at 6:00 and the game begins at 7:05.

Sunday, July 2 is another Family Day presented by Charleston Parks & Recreation and the Charleston IMAX Theater. Family Sundays offer parents and children the opportunity to play catch on the field before the game, and kids are permitted to run the bases and secure autographs following the game. Additionally, there is face painting, balloon twisting, and free pony rides at The Joe. Sunday's game time is 4:05 and the game is presented by STAR 99.7.

The Independence Day celebration begins a day early with the RiverDogs on Monday, July 3. Monday is a Dogs With A Cause night benefiting Crime Stoppers. The game has a special holiday start time of 6:05, with the gates opening at 5:00. Following the game, the RiverDogs will honor the founding of our nation with a fireworks extravaganza that will light up the Lowcountry sky surrounding The Joe. The final game of the homestand is expected to be a sellout and fans are encouraged to get their tickets early.

Following this homestand the RiverDogs play four games in Georgia against the Columbus Catfish. The RiverDogs return to Charleston for a three-game homestand beginning Saturday, July 8 with the Savannah Sand Gnats (Washington Nationals).
