Hickory Crawdads News Release
Rain delayed the start of the Hickory Crawdad vs. Greenville Drive game for one hour and fifty minutes Friday night at L.P. Frans Stadium. The Drive pitching trio of Clay Buchholz, Tim Cox and Blake Maxwell delayed the Hickory offense the rest of the night as the âDads were shut out for only the third time this season in Greenville's 2-0 win in front of 3,122 fans.
The only two runs of the game scored against Crawdad starter Luis Munoz in the fourth inning. With two outs and nobody on, Drive 1B Logan Sorensen drew a walk. Greenville LF Chris Turner followed with a two run line drive homer to left field that gave Greenville all of the offense they would need.
Buchholz (4-2) worked five scoreless innings allowing four hits and no walks while striking out five in the victory. Cox pitched three frames, gave up just one hit, no walks, and fanned four. Maxwell earned his ninth save with a scoreless, hitless ninth including two K's.
Munoz (0-2) allowed two runs on four hits in six innings to take the loss. Dave Davidson gave up two hits and no runs while striking out two in two innings out of the âDads bullpen. Romulo Sanchez pitched a 1-2-3 ninth for Hickory.
The âDads managed just one hit over the final four innings of the game. Hickory had two runners on base at the same time on just one occasion. The âDads were limited to five hits in the contest and Greenville tallied just six based hits. Hickory SS Brent Lillibridge had two hits in four tries and Greenville catcher Mark Wagner also was two of four.
The two teams meet at 7pm Saturday night. Hickory right hander Todd Redmond faces Greenville righty Mike Bowden.
