'Caps Fall in South Bend

SOUTH BEND, IN- The West Michigan Whitecaps offense came up just short as they lost to the South Bend Cubs 3-2 Saturday night at Four Winds Field.

South Bend picked up three runs in the games' first three innings, thanks in part to an RBI-double by Jesse Hodges to give the Cubs a 3-0 early lead. The Whitecaps broke through in the sixth when Ross Kivett connected for his third home run of the season; a two-run shot to left field to bring the 'Caps within a run, making the score 3-2.

Erick Leal (6-4) allowed two runs in six innings to record his sixth win of the season. A.J. Ladwig (6-5) suffered the loss despite pitching 7.1 innings but allowing three runs while striking out four. James Farris pitched a scoreless ninth to record his ninth save in 2015. The Whitecaps fall to 33-35, while the Cubs improve to 28-38.

WHAT CAN BROWN DO FOR YOU?

Whitecaps outfielder Rashad Brown has recorded exactly two hits in each of his first five games since rejoining the team last Tuesday. Brown is hitting .455 (10-for-22) since returning from extended spring training.
