West Michigan Whitecaps News Release
SOUTH BEND, IN- The West Michigan Whitecaps offense came up just short as they lost to the South Bend Cubs 3-2 Saturday night at Four Winds Field.
South Bend picked up three runs in the games' first three innings, thanks in part to an RBI-double by Jesse Hodges to give the Cubs a 3-0 early lead. The Whitecaps broke through in the sixth when Ross Kivett connected for his third home run of the season; a two-run shot to left field to bring the 'Caps within a run, making the score 3-2.
Erick Leal (6-4) allowed two runs in six innings to record his sixth win of the season. A.J. Ladwig (6-5) suffered the loss despite pitching 7.1 innings but allowing three runs while striking out four. James Farris pitched a scoreless ninth to record his ninth save in 2015. The Whitecaps fall to 33-35, while the Cubs improve to 28-38.

Whitecaps outfielder Rashad Brown has recorded exactly two hits in each of his first five games since rejoining the team last Tuesday. Brown is hitting .455 (10-for-22) since returning from extended spring training.
