Kronenfeld's Double Gives Dragons Walk-Off Win

June 20, 2015 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Dayton Dragons News Release

Dayton, Ohio-Paul Kronenfeld's two-out double brought in Jonathan Reynoso from first base with the winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning as the Dayton Dragons defeated the Lake County Captains 9-8 on Saturday night. A crowd of 8,424 saw the seventh Dragons walk-off win at Fifth Third Field this season.

Lake County scored three runs in the top of the eighth inning to tie the game at 8-8. The score was still tied when the Dragons came to bat in the bottom of the 10th as Reynoso reached on a one-out infield single. After Jose Ortiz struck out for the second out, Kronenfeld lined a shot down the right field line, twisting into foul territory after it had passed first base. The ball nearly hit Lake County relief pitcher Cameron Hill, who was standing in the bullpen watching the action. If the ball had struck Hill, it would have been a ground rule double and Reynoso would have been held at third base. But Hill leaped out of the path of the ball as it headed to the corner, and Reynoso easily beat the throw to the plate to end the game.

Dragons center fielder Brian O'Grady enjoyed his second two-homer game in eight days. O'Grady, who had belted two home runs in a game against Wisconsin on June 12, connected on a game-tying three-run home run in the sixth, and then added a two-run homer in the seventh. His five runs batted in for the night matched a team season-high as he extended his hitting streak to 11 straight games. The two home runs gave O'Grady a team high six for the year.

Lake County jumped out to a 4-1 lead over the first four innings and held that lead until O'Grady's first homer in the sixth. Three batters after O'Grady's homer, Jose Ortiz belted a two-run blast to give the Dragons a 6-4 lead. After Lake County scored once in the top of the seventh, O'Grady added his second homer of the night to make it 8-5. The Captains tied the game with three runs in the eighth.

Dragons reliever Brian Hunter (5-2) earned the win, retiring all three batters he faced in the top of the 10th.

Both teams had 15 hits in the game. Gavin LaValley was 3 for 5 with two runs scored for the Dragons. Kronenfeld, who did not enter the game until the eighth inning, had two doubles. O'Grady, Reynoso, Ortiz, and Luis Gonzalez also had two hits.

The Dragons (38-31) battle Lake County (36-31) on Sunday afternoon at 2:00 in the last game of the "first half" season. Junior Morillo (1-1, 3.94) will start for the Dragons against Lake County's Anderson Polanco (3-5, 3.90). The Dragons open the 70-game second half on Thursday at Bowling Green.

All Dragons games are broadcast on radio on Fox Sports 980 WONE and on the internet at wone.com. Games are also available on the Dayton Dragons mobile app.

Notes: Lake County was eliminated from first half playoff contention with the loss, allowing the Great Lakes Loons to clinch the East Division wildcard. The Lansing Lugnuts wrapped up the division title on the night as well.
