
Captains Fall in Extra Innings

Lake County Captains News Release
(Dayton, OH) -The Lake County Captains saw their first half playoff hopes disappear in an extra innings loss to the Dayton Dragons. The Dragons would rally from a 4-1 deficit to take an 8-5 lead. However, the Captains would tie the game at 8 forcing extra innings. But a Paul Kronenfeld walk-off double would send the Dragons to a 9-8 win in ten innings.
The Captains took an early lead in the top of the first inning. With two outs Claudio Bautista reached on a single. Bobby Bradley would then single to score Bautista from first base for a 1-0 lead.
The Dragons tied the score right away in the bottom half of the inning. Ronald Bueno started the inning with a triple. Luis Gonzalez would then bring Bueno home on an RBI sacrifice fly.
In the top of the second inning Steven Patterson would lead off with his first homerun of the season, a solo shot to rightfield to give the lead back to the Captains at 2-1. Bobby Ison would also come around to score with two outs when Dragons' centerfielder Brian O'Grady misplayed a hit by Taylor Murphy. After the second the Captains led 3-1.
The Captains would push the lead out to 4-1 in the top of the fourth inning. Leading off the inning, Francisco Mejia would connect on his sixth homerun of the season.
In the bottom of the sixth inning the Dragons would take the lead. Gonzalez and Gavin LaValley both singled to start the inning. O'Grady would follow by launching a three run homerun to rightfield to tie the game. With one out Jonathan Reynoso would single. Jose Ortiz would then follow with his third homerun of the season, a two run homer to give the Dragons a 6-4 lead.
The Captains cut it to a one run game in the top of the seventh inning. Greg Allen doubled off the wall in centerfield to start the inning. After a groundout moved him to third, he would score on Bautista's RBI ground out to cut the deficit to 6-5.
Dayton would then retake the lead in the bottom of the inning. With two outs LaValley would again single. O'Grady would follow with his second homer of the game to push the Dragons lead to 8-5.
In the top of the eighth inning the Captains would load the bases with no outs. Mejia would deliver again with an RBI single to score Dorssys Paulino. Ison would then drive in Patterson with an RBI sacrifice fly. A passed ball would allow Yonathan Mendoza to score from third to tie the game at 8.
In the bottom of the tenth inning the Dragons would get the walk off win on the Kronenfeld double to score Reynoso from first.
Sean Brady started for the Captains and went 6.0 innings. He allowed 6 runs, all earned, on 9 hits. He struck out 7. Julian Merryweather would then go 2.0 innings in relief. He allowed 2 runs, both earned, on 4 hits. He struck out 2. Caleb Hamrick (2-1) took the loss in 1.2 innings. He allowed 1 run, earned, on 2 hits. He struck out 3.
With the loss the Captains are now eliminated from first half playoff contention. The Lansing Lugnuts claimed the division title while the Great Lakes Loons earned the wild card.
The Captain finish the first half on Sunday afternoon at 2:00pm from Dayton. Anderson Polanco will get the start for the Captains. Catch the action on 970AM WFUN.
