Snappers' Bats Go Cold in Battle for Wisconsin

Beloit Sky Carp News Release
BELOIT, Wisc. - Wisconsin starter Kodi Medeiros dazzled in Milwaukee, pitching five and two-thirds one-hit innings while walking three and striking out seven Snappers. Beloit put up a solid effort, but fell short 5-1 at Miller Park.
After cruising through two innings, Beloit starter Joey Wagman gave up a solo home run to Brandon Diaz in the top of the third, which would be one of few blemishes on the night for the right-hander. Wagman bounced back to put up a zero in the fourth, but the Snappers couldn't get anything going to support his effort, notching their first hit with two outs in the sixth inning.
Kevin Johnson came on in relief of Wagman to pitch a scoreless fifth inning, but ran into trouble in the sixth after a single from Elvis Rubio and a walk from Dustin Demuth. Sthervin Matos then hit into a fielder's choice to put runners at the corners when the Snappers couldn't turn a double play. Koby Gauna relieved Johnson with two outs in the inning. With Greg McCall batting, Jose Chavez attempted to catch Matos stealing and Elvis Rubio broke for home, drawing an errant throw from Yairo Munoz. Matos then moved up to third on the error and would score after McCall walked and Alan Sharkey hit a double up the left field line to give Wisconsin a 4-0 lead in the sixth.
After a Chavez walk and an error by Matos, Joe Bennie got Beloit's first hit to bring in Chavez and get the Snappers on the board. After facing the minimum through five and two-thirds innings, Medeiros gave way to Josh Uhen who struck out Yairo Munoz to end the Snappers threat. The Timber Rattlers carried a 4-1 lead into the seventh inning.
Wisconsin wasn't done scoring, however. Jose Pena came on to pinch-hit in the top of the ninth, doubling to right center field to bring in another run and push the lead to 5-1. Unfortunately for the Snappers, the Timber rattlers bullpen put together a lockdown effort, and the home team on the scoreboard fell 5-1 on the big league stage. Wagman takes the loss and falls to 2-2, and Medeiros gets the win to go to 3-2.
This loss ends Beloit's three-game win streak at Miller Park, and the Snappers fall to 25-43 on the season. The Snappers travel back to Beloit to play the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers again tomorrow night at Pohlman Field at 7:00 PM. To buy tickets, stop by the office or call (608) 362-2272.
