Lansing Lugnuts News Release

LANSING, Mich. - The Lansing Lugnuts clinched their first division title since 2012, jumping out to an early four-run lead and besting the Great Lakes Loons, 8-2, Saturday at Cooley Law School Stadium.

Rowdy Tellez notched two runs batted in, increasing his Midwest League-leading RBI total to 49. Mike Reeves provided a single and two RBIs. The Lugnuts also turned their first triple play in three seasons courtesy of shortstop Richard Urena and Tellez.

That triple play aided Shane Dawson (Win, 9-4), who allowed two runs in six innings and allowed eight hits. The Midwest League wins leader struck out six.

Kevin Guzman (Loss, 4-5) allowed four runs in five innings.

Reliever Dusty Isaacs came in for Dawson and recorded his first career save, giving up two hits in the final three innings.

Lansing's fielders backed up the pitching staff. The game was scoreless in the second when Urena jumpstarted Lansing's triple play.

Urena dropped a line drive from Jimmy Allen, ran to tag out Kelvin Ramos at second, stepped on second base to force out Alex Verdugo, and then threw to Tellez at first for the final out.

The Lugnuts have one game left in the first half tomorrow on Father's Day Catch and Cookout and Kids Day, a 2:05 p.m. start against the Loons. On the mound, Conner Greene (6-2, 4.31 ERA) matches Brandon Martinez (1-0, 2.63).

After the break, Lansing returns home for a four-game set, June 25-28, against West Michigan. For more information, call (517) 485-4500 or visit lansinglugnuts.com.
