West Michigan Whitecaps News Release
BELOIT, WI - The West Michigan Whitecaps got out to a nine-run lead and coasted to a 13-4 win over the first-place Beloit Sky Carp on Tuesday night at ABC Supply Stadium.
The Whitecaps enjoyed back-to-back double-digit scoring performances for the first time this season and their first since scoring a combined 33 runs with ten or more in consecutive contests on July 3-4, 2022.
The Whitecaps opened the contest with a six-run first inning highlighted by RBI-singles from Steele Walker and Danny Serretti before a two-run double from Dillon Paulson opened up a lead that West Michigan would never relinquish. In the second, the 'Caps scored again on a run-scoring single by Roberto Campos. In the third, solo home runs from Seretti and Justice Bigbie - his second in as many games - propelling the Whitecaps to a 9-0 lead. In the seventh, Campos collected a triple before scoring on a Danny Seretti sent him home with a sacrifice fly. An inning later, Izaac Pacheco's run-scoring double - his third hit of the night, and seventh in his last two games - concluded the scoring for West Michigan in their series-opening victory in Beloit.
The Whitecaps gain a half-game on the first-place Lake County Captains, moving their record to 13-9 on the season as the Sky Carp fall to 14-7 but remain in first place in the Midwest League Western Division. 'Caps starting pitcher Garrett Burhenn (1-1) tossed five innings without allowing an earned run to become the first West Michigan pitcher to earn a victory this season - his first of the year. Beloit pitcher Holt Jones (0-3) failed to finish the first inning and gave up six runs on suffering his third loss. Josh Crouch, a mainstay with the 'Caps during the 2022 season, rejoined to the club after being assigned from Double-A Erie, and went 2-for-5 with a double and three runs scored in his return.
