'Canes Reassign Zach Boychuk to Charlotte

RALEIGH, NC - Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League's Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has reassigned forward Zach Boychuk to the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League (AHL).

Boychuk, 21, scored three goals and earned two assists (5 points) while playing in all 16 of the Hurricanes' games since his Dec. 17 recall. Prior to joining Carolina, the Airdrie, Alb., native led all Checkers scorers and ranked second in the AHL with 32 points in Charlotte's 28 games. Boychuk (5'10", 185 lbs.) is in his second full professional season, and has scored six goals and earned eight assists (14 points) in 49 career NHL games with the Hurricanes. Carolina drafted Boychuk in the first round, 14th overall, in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.
